Sorry I started this very off-topic thread! Of course the issues at stake
are very important issues, but should be discussed on other fora (forums?).

Nonetheless there have been so many respondents, on- and off-list, that it
is hardly possible to answer them all, even with one common mail. So I
decided to prepare an answer and feel so free to answer by way of this list,
hoping all reactions will be directed to me privately, which, BTW, makes
answering privately easier, at least in my opinion.
