A definition was requested of a cent...........................

There are 100 cents between any two chromatic notes.
It happens that at A440, 1hz is 4 cents.
A439 is 4 cents flat.

A unison with a 4 cent spread is very audibly out of tune, it is allot.
Most of our tuning must be within .5 of one cent to be OK, preferably better
then than.
Concert tuning is measured in deviations of 0.1 cent.

Cheers

Dave,

It might be "very audibly out of tune" when you are working with a
piano...but it's not significant in an orchestra or band performance
situation.

We bend notes way more than 4 "cents" just to tune chords or to play in-tune
with our peers. ?????

4 cents? Most orchestral players only wished. Hahaha Even great ones. Have
you ever watched a wind player at a tuning machine? Or listened to what goes
on in an orchestra while the musicians are constantly moving pitch around to
"play in-tune"?
