This serial number points to around the year 1930. My Artist model (wooden)
alto clarinet is several years older, simple yet very nicely made and one of
my favourite horns (I have more than 30 clarinets including 3 altos). Yet
it's (simple) German system, with some very neat keywork because not all the
toneholes are open.
Would you please post a link if your friend offers it on e-bay or elsewhere?
Best wishes,
danyel

Subject: [kl] Moennig Metal Bass Clarinet

A friend of mine has a metal bass clarinet. It is a 5 piece - though it is
in a three piece case. The bell is stamped 'Moennig Brothers - Artist
Model - Silvertone' the body has serial number 19259 and Germany stamped
into both upper and lower sections. I know little of Moennig brands. It is
apparently fairly old. It has a new case, and a recent repad/tightening up.
It play ok. Probably good enough for a student level performer. I think it
could be improved with some work, but I am not the one to do it.

My friend is interested in selling it - probably on ebay. Any information
you could offer from your vast knowledge will be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,
