PS: I always felt the trick to playing Eb was to realize there are only =
two=20
dynamics: Soft and softer. What a rare and wonderful day it is for a=20
conductor to have to say "Eb Clarinet Player, could you please play a=20
little louder?".

-----

At my clarinet lessons (when playing on Bb), my teacher was always =
pushing
me to expand my dynamic range - he was happy with my pianissimos, but my
fortes and fortissimos weren't lound enough. I attributed that =
particular
problem to all the Eb playing I was doing in a Wind Ensemble, where the =
goal
was to play only loud enough to get the notes to speak. =20

But, one time the Wind Ensemble was doing a marvelous transcription of =
Til
Eulenspiegel (by Mark Hindsley), and at the end of the piece I got to =
hear
those wonderful words from the conductor! But instead of "play a little
louder", it was, "play it as loud you can"! It was fun for a change to
really let loose on the eefer!
