One thought is that simply blasting a lot of air into the mouthpiece can
be a wasted effort. The turbulent air stream fights against itself.
The exercise of blowing gently against a scrap of paper in order to hold
the paper against a wall is one method of teaching how a 'focused' air
stream does more work with less effort.

Another demonstration is to hang a tissue over the end your own bell and
then you play forte for the student. The student sees that not much
air comes out the end of the clarinet. Then you can give the speech
about standing waves, etc.
