Welcome to the world of school music. Only, be careful not to give total
credence to what the kids *say* about their own playing. With the age comes
a good deal of nervousness about claiming to be good, in case they really
aren't. They don't really have anything much to compare themselves to except
perhaps professional performances in whatever genre they listen to outside
of school, so unless they're *really* awful, they don't generally know for
sure how good (or bad) they are. Safer to advertise your weaknesses and let
someone else (maybe the band director?) point out your strengths.
