Nicholas, the adjudicators have to assume you already know how to fix the
problems - they're providing a fresh set of ears and perhaps some validation
of the things you may already have been saying to the kids in rehearsals.
They make those taped comments in real time while the performance is taking
place. Some judges are better at it than others, but there isn't time to
expand on anything - they just note a problem and go on listening to the
rest. Then, when the performance is finished, they need to finish quickly
with their comments so the next group can get started.

I have a lot of bad feelings about those adjudication festivals, even when
comparative ratings (1st, 2nd, 3rd place, etc.) aren't awarded. But if you
take a band or orchestra to them, you get what they offer, which is whatever
the judges can manage to hear and note quickly. It's not an in-depth
exercise nor a teaching tutorial.
