Right. And it doesn't matter if they learn to read. It's their life. It
doesn't matter if they learn to write. It's their life. It doesn't matter
if they learn math. It's their life.

These aren't equivalent. The first statement is more like saying that it
doesn't matter if they ever come to Shakespeare, not if they ever learn to
read. You deal more directly with the point later in your post, but
proposing this as a counter is an over-reaction. It's hard to argue sensibly
when you're so emotionally charged up.
