During this discussion, I've tried to imagine:

"What would *I* do if I were a band director and if I wanted to 'do
something' to K.622 in order to stimulate my student's interest in
'classical' music? Of course, many band classes don't have this
particular goal in the first place, but what if I wanted to do it?

Rather than trying to rewrite K.622 myself, I suspect that I would
excerpt a theme from K.622. I would watch for any complex fingerings
or ornaments in this theme, and I would simplify them so that my
students could gather in small groups and a soloist from each group
could play the theme on an instrument. Then assignment to the students
would be:

"Start with this theme and do something with it.

"Depending on your own style, work either as a group or as individuals.
If this theme makes you think of some other melody, it's OK to make your
own changes to the theme --- or you can simply add to it, or you can put
something in front of it. You can add another instrument(s) if this is
what interests you --- even an electronic instrument such as keyboard,
or percussion if you wish. But whatever you choose, this week's
assignment is to do *something* with this theme. You don't need to
make it especially long, because I know you have other classes and
hopefully your own practicing.

"I won't be grading or critiqueing what you do. I just want you to do
*something* with this theme. If you choose to play your creation for
the rest of the band next week, that's OK. But if you don't, that's OK
also. The only requirement is that you hand *something* in to me next
Monday."

And next Monday, I'd spend a class period playing K.622 for them.
