transcription and arranging, which, to my mind are two different things.

I do respect where you are coming from with this, which is to say, that
sometimes you do what you must to get students' attention, short of
dropping a Steinway concert grand on them. (Out of tune, of course)

Somehow, as one who has been forced to attempt a classical saxophone
sound, and could not produce such successfully, and has heard someone
who DID produce such VERY successfully, I don't find orchestral use of
saxophone the travesty most find it to be. Much of that has to do with
the skill of the performer, which, if you listen to what is in the
classical sax world today, is in great abundance.

Good or bad? "Beats" me. ;-)
