It interesting that more girls take up the clarinet than boys. That was my
experience in school as well.

However, VASTLY more professional clarinetists are male. I have always
thought that playing the clarinet well and playing the clarinets repertoire
well called for an aggressive, assertive, and confident personality. These
are characteristics that have usually (or historically, or typically, or
however you want to put it) been more masculine traits, for whatever reason
(cultural, socialogical, or physiological - i.e. Testosterone and what it
does to you).

I wonder about the difference. Where do all those girls go?
