This may be where your error is creeping in. You are not hearing the sound
of the reed vibrating at all. The vibration of the reed is, in turn,
causing a column of air within the instrument to vibrate. THIS is the
sound you hear. In a flute, the vibration of the column of air is induced
in a different manner that does not involve a reed.
