I'm inclined to agree. But that doesn't mean that recomposition or
rearrangement of Mozart can't be musically interesting---e.g. John
Woolrich's mini-clarinet-concerto "Si va facendo notte", which develops
fragments of Mozart's music into a very different soundworld (a
recording is available, alongside the Mozart concerto, Sussmayr concerto
movement, and Birtwistle "Linoi", on a CD by a mate of mine, Mark van de
Wiel).

Incidentally, I once heard the Adagio of the Mozart concerto performed
on electric guitars, on the closing titles of a movie starring Richard
Gere (I don't know what movie because I only saw the last 2 minutes and
the closing credits). It was in 4/4 time.
