Christy,

I think that you are going about this the right way. The publisher can tell
you if something is out of print, but there is no easy way to find out if
it is in something else. In general, I have noticed that Carl Fischer has
let a lot music go out of print. There is a source for obtains copies
of CF music but I doubt they have everything.
