OK, now we're getting somewhere.

This does not explain the reason why I can blow an air sound only and then
apply pressure to the reed to create a clarinet sound. How I wish I had a
clarinet in my hands. Please elaborate.

What I wrote precisely answers that question, perhaps with the
assumption that you must seal the system so that the air is directed over
the reed in a controlled or focused way. i.e. the embouchure....

Then rewrite the following paragraph such that anyone with a bit of common
sense can understand it and we'll have our solution. I've tried and,
apparently, failed. I'm certainly not too proud to ask for help.

You said you read Benade. You rewrite the paragraph. I already have
a pretty good understanding regarding this issue. As I've said many
times..."common sense" is a function of two basic elements. Education and
experience.

I'm also curious if you disagree with my reasoning for the most efficient
way to apply pressure to reed, leaving aside my poor explanation of how the
clarinet produces a sound.
Or maybe you feel applying pressure to the reed is unnecessary?

"Applying pressure" (the right kind) to the reed is very necessary.
It provides the element of control in this tone generation system. Tony Pay
wrote extremely well about this very subject this past year. Look in the
archives or perhaps Tony would point us all to the reference so that we can
once again enjoy the benefits of both his knowledge and ability to
communicate.

Adam, I didn't like the way your teacher described embouchure on his web
site...by the way....not such a good reference for younger students trying
to find their way.
