Ancient tune? To the best of my knowledge, it was a Jimmy Mundy
original. On the other hand, many of my favorite swing arrangements are
re-castings of classical themes. However, I like them for the fresh
approach they bring TO the originals. If I was not already familiar with
the originals, I would not appreciate them as much. Back when these swing
pieces were performed, most people WERE familiar with the original themes
from the radio, town band concerts, etc.
