Forest,

True, but neither is it better because it costs more. "Worth it" is an
extremely relative criteria, when I evaluate new instruments I use the
criteria of "does it play so much better than my current instrument such
that I don't care what is on the price tag". Which, I suppose, roughly
equates to is it "worth it".

I suspect the Tosca instruments will not meet my criteria. My curiosity is
whether it will meet this criteria with other players, or whether players
will be making the flawed assumption that more expensive is better (which
is why this relates to my initial comments to Krista). Certainly there will
be a mix of both types, the question becomes which type is Buffet hoping to
make more money from. I submit the latter, but I also submit that Buffet is
in the business of making money and making the customer happy *not* in the
business of saving anyone any money (except in cases where saving the
customer money equates to a happier customer). Additionally, we benefit
from any success Buffet has as a business.

So, to be clear, if Buffet can make money off the Tosca clarinets I think
that is wonderful. If people think the Tosca clarinets are inherently
better because they cost more, I think that is terrible.

But I'm a capitalist pig, as well as an ignorant American.

Adam,

And my reply to this....

The people who will most likely to be able to benefit from any advantage
that the Tosca offers will those best qualified to objectively evaluate the
instrument. I don't know of ANY (not one) professional player that would buy
a clarinet simply because it costs more.
