Sorry, I don't understand this. Can you explain more clearly?

Of course he shouldn't do them for free. In the current context, it demeans
him. I think that's different from the reason Dan said he wants to be paid
for his letters, though.

But actually, to argue the contrary in Dan's case, I think that private
ownership can sometimes block availability via photocopies, say; the grounds
being that if things are made more available through those routes, they are
also made thereby less valuable should the money-interested owner wish to
resell them.

(BTW, coincidentally, I was introduced to the Glazunov by the Nonesuch Abato
recording as a student. It remains the high point of my saxophone listening
experience.)
