Subj: [kl] Bartok's Mandarin - BSO recording
Date: Tue, 12 Oct 2004 16:48:14 -0400

That's my favorite recording of the Mandarin. I got it on tape and
transferred it to CD. Personally I think that non-published recordings
should be public domain if not re-issued within a certain period of
time (a couple of years, not longer), but since I don't make up the
laws, I can't offer the recording to anyone.
Also BSO's L'Histoire with Wright is to me the best recording of that
work too.

ps - Dan L., your article about the Schools of Clarinet tone being
non-existent is to me a myth trying to debunk a supposed myth.
There are various schools of Clarinet playing and they DO have
different sounds. Just because nobody agrees completely with the
terminology used for the various tone qualities doesn't mean that they
don't exist.

There are several nice recordings of
his now out on CD, but one that has never been re-released to my
knowledge
is the recording of "The Miraculous Mandarin" with Ozawa and the
Boston
Symphony. Find it if you can!.
