The last time that this topic was discussed on Klarinet, several people
said that, in addition to the software, you would need to purchase
expensive calibrated microphones and digital signal processors and other
gizmos whose names I don't remember.

This project is one that I've always wanted to do myself, and now that
I'm tinkering with making my own barrels, I'm even more desirous of
seeing graphs of my results --- including comparing graphs of the same
barrel on different days (in order to judge how 'constant' my sound is
from one day to the next).

So my question (to anyone who has specific knowledge) is: Has the cost
of a 'simple first attempt' software/hardware package changed during the
last few years? The cost was beyond my budget the last time that the
list discussed this topic.
