Karl, Thanks for the feedback. I like these groups for the simple =
reason
that I can "think out loud" in writing and get almost instant feedback =
on
those thoughts. I guess it gives me a better idea of whether I'm the =
only
one with this frustration, as well as whether I'm "off-base" in my =
thinking
or just simply being too negative about the whole thing.=20
In an area like the one I live in, there aren't many existing
opportunities for professional players so I suppose that's why many of =
us
end up playing with these groups. I guess everyone who plays with a =
musical
group has a different goal in mind and I need to find groups with =
players
that have goals and values similar to mine. However, I'll have to say =
our
band director also plays in a woodwind quintet with me and I know he has
been anxious to improve the Civic Band by adding some professional =
players
but unless he takes drastic action (auditions would be a drastic action =
in
this case), I don't think much will change.
We do have a local couple who purchased an old church in our =
community
and they are in the process of renovating it and organizing to use the =
space
as a fine arts center. They have already had some very exciting =
programs
and performing groups at the center so things are looking up here.
I'm going to see the St. Louis Stompers tonight at our local =
university
and the Milwaukee Symphony is actually doing a performance in a nearby =
town
next Thursday so all is not lost. =20

Christy
