4th German Clarinet Symposium in Berlin (4 of 4)

Hi there,
For those of you who are still interested, here's the report about the last day. To the others: you may now press delete.

Sunday was the last day of the symposium. At 9AM (middle of the night, ugh!) was the clarinet choir rehearsal and bang: there was my next surprise (even though I suspected it the day before). The contra alto clarinet suddenly found itself without a player and so I was nominated to take it over. Luckily, I had had a contra bass in my hands before so I had some idea of how it would react. I managed the part ok, I guess including the quick 6/8 solo with the wild leaps. I enjoyed the bass part more than the what the Germans call the "tuttischwein" job.

As I had to leave the premises urgently, I never even found out whether the clarinets from the Staatskapelle Berlin were there.

12:30 was an absolutely fascinating lecture by Nicholas Shackleton with slides about the French clarinet maker J.F. Simiot. Thanks Nick!

The last event then was the concert of the clarinet choir which I enjoyed tremendously. In May is another meeting of the clarinet choir. I hope I can make it!
