I find no difficulty whatsoever - in fact the slightly larger D is
physically so much easier to play for me - but the change between the
two is slight (albeit significant) in a similar way to the Bb/A change.

It may well be easier than changing from C to B flat - C clarinets have
larger
holes, closer together. The change is more like E flat to B flat than
B flat to A.
