Hi Lori,

I heard a great report of this concert from mutual friends. Wish I had heard
it.

Well, I know exactly what you mean. It was a rental of basset horns 15 years
ago for the Mozart Requiem and Gran Partitta that started my love affair
with the instrument and determined me to buy one when I could. You are
right, the sound is SO different and so lovely. I'm also glad that I
encouraged you in this, and it is a tiny repayment for all that I have
learned from you in the Kammermusik workshops. I also owe Dan for letting me
play his glorious Fox instrument before ordering one myself. The 18 month
wait was well worth while. Forest Aten calls our cocobolo horns (hewn from
the same log) pieces of furniture, but he's just jealous as hell. Hopefully
the brothers, nay twins, will be reunited for a Requiem performance in 2006.

But I hope you played it on basset HORNS not basset clarinets! <grin>

And yes Dan, I've ordered my copy of those forgeries :-)
