Audrey - use a toothbrush and soap (not strong deodorant soap nor
liquid soap) and scrub the mouthpiece and reed with it. Yes you can do
it to the reed also and after rinsing it off completely there will be
no aftertaste.
Your cold germs will be gone from both. You can take an Alcohol Swab
(like the doctor uses and I use for my students reeds/mp when I try
them) and wipe the keys down. You can also use that swab on your
mouthpiece and reed if you want even more of a "sterile" setup.

How do I kill germs on the reed and mouthpiece after playing when I
have
a bad cold? I don't want to reinfect myself. I could use soap on the
mouthpiece ( hard rubber) but what about the reed?

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Audrey
