Rien, here's a thought (not a challenge):

Any adjective must be interpreted in context. You've focused your
attention mostly on national folk instruments, but consider that other
contexts are equally as reasonable. Thus you are thinking within the
boundaries of a particular context also.

For example, why didn't you include electronic vs. acoustic instruments
in your examples?

Obviously the cello is a "major" instrument while electric bass in a
rock band is not..... heh! unless you're talking to my daughter.
