At the risk of incensing purists....saxophone quartet arrangements of =
Bach
sound wonderful, and my favorite version of his Toccata & Fugue in D =
minor
is for Clarinet Choir. My friend Olga Van Kranendonk is a cellist with =
the
world renowned original instrument baroque orchestra, Tafelmusik, and =
she is
enthusiastic about Bach transcriptions. The great baritone saxophonist,
Todd Oxford, has recorded some of the Bach solo cello sonatas and Olga =
gave
it the nod of approval.
Bela has also recorded an entire album of transcriptions for banjo,
Perpetual Motion. It includes Bach, Scarlatti, Chopin, Debussy,
Beethoven....and Paganini's Moto Perpetuo. A tour de force. Bela had a
massage therapist on hand daily during rehearsals and recording!
OK...one more. Eddie Daniels recorded Vivaldi's Four Seasons, playing =
the
solo violin part at the ORIGINAL PITCH. I know, just because one can do =
it
(unbelievable enough), doesn't mean one should!

There are a LOT worse things to listen to on banjo! Such as Dueling=20
Banjos: the Theme from Deliverance. I am SOOOOO sick of that...I hope=20
to not hear it again in this lifetime. Or even the next one...
