Ok you got a greaat memory i don't remember Karl's name. I do remember Mr.
Swift and the great Quincy public school sytem classes as well (I went to
Pollard elementary, Jr. High and then my folks moved to N. Quincy and I
went to North Quincy High and fought a lot with the guys there in the
beginning being from the other end of town tough sports competiton and all).
YEAH West Quincy (we all hung out at the Quarries and the toughest would
dive from the highest point into those waters) South Weymouth and all the
Portuguese speaking folks (lots of my relatives still live in S. MA and
Providence, RI area).
My dad worked at Bethlem Steel Co. better known as the "Quincy shipyard",
right there between Quincy and Weymouth (we fished sea bass and some guys
even dived off that old bridge there, real tough SOBs, not me).
Hey thanks for those prices. One of Brasil's best repair persons and
woodwind seller is a longtime friend. I'll mention you to him, who knows
some sales might be generated. Do you only overhaul clarinets (no saxes)??
How about Brasilian music, lots of greast clarinet players (well all types
of musicians around here). I'm working on translations and method
productions/workshops and gigs. I've been in touch with David Liebman and
now Bob Mintzer. I would like to get some clarinet folks over here for this
same type of work (people were really into Eddie Daniels in the mid
80's/90's)!!??

Who was the clarinet teacher in Quincy who lived up by the old dump in those
apartments?
Was it Karl______??? had 100 clarinet students. Karl Longmeier????

Actually I was staying at the family home at 22 Suomi Rd a few hundred feet
from there---right about where Quarry and Smith come together on Finn Hill
in West Quincy above the square.

My other grandmother was in South Weymouth. I had a lotta Portagee friends
out in Whitman and Hanson where I also grew up.

Sorry I don't pay attention to prices on clarinets that need an
overhaul--they are only a blank! I just know what I sell them for after I
have done a full custom over-haul---typically $1,800. Usually these are in
fantastic condition then---very re-buildable clarinets.

I have seen some needing an overhaul for $1,200, but have no idea if that is
a typical price. We don't sell clarinets unless they are fully custom
overhauled ---or new---and THEN encourage the overhaul!

Thank you for sharing this e-mail!! I was raised in Quincy, MA and moved to
Brasil with my family for the first time in May 1975. It was Berklee or
Brasil and I wanted the hot weather after so many cold winters. As my folks
are from Cape Verde Islands and Brasil was colonized shortly after C. Verde
we have a lot of the same roots and I wanted to meet some relatives I din't
know personally BUT who had got my interest in Brasil and brasilian music
going!!
I love Boston and I'm even thinking about spending a winter there...WOW now
that's courage for me. BUT thanks again for the storis, what great memories
that brought back!! What do these clarinets from the mid 70's cost now
(average) and are the hard to find!!?? Abraham
