Subj: [kl] The physics of a bend or coil
Date: Wed, 22 Sep 2004 17:06:04 -0400

Obviously length (in combination with other factors such as total volume
and tone hole diameter, etc) affects a wind instrument's intonation.
Many wind instruments use bends or coils in order to keep the
instrument's overall size manageable; but since the path along the
inside radius of a curved tube is shorter than along the outside radius,
would someone discuss for me why this doesn't mess up intonation and
timbre?

Thank you
