All of this aside, Parable, which was the topic of the original question,
isn't one of his band pieces, so I think we've gone off in a direction away
from Sandy's interest. It's for solo clarinet (unaccompanied). I actually
like the piece a great deal, but I have no help to offer in finding an
analysis. Sandy, you may need to do your own.

As to the rest of Persichetti's music, he composed a great deal outside of
his band output - I find his choral music attractive and, although I've
never played or studied them, I've heard performances of one or two of his
symphonies, which I remember to have found more lyrical and adventurous at
any rate than the band pieces, which I agree all gravitate toward the same
mechanistic dryness. It may be that's all he thought he could get from all
winds and percussion.
