I've played the part out of the Ben Armato book, it is absolutely sublime, but
for the life of me--sitting 44 miles from the sheet music--I can't remember
whether it's marked for a Bb or an A. I play everything on the Bb anyway
because there's nobody around me to tell me to transpose 300 accidentals into
450:-). It's fun to play, and it's a lot easier than the introduction to Act
III of La Forza del Destino. THAT is a monster.

If the player seemed to be on the wrong instrument, maybe the tenor was
transposing (though NOBODY would ever do THAT!!!!) or the clarinetist was doing
some really fancy fingering because he indeed had the wrong instrument.

Would the singer have a name recognizable to reasonable with-it opera people or
is he one of those "watch this guy's star" and hope it really happens for him?

Not like I'm singling anyone out, but Sean, if you're there, you played this
stuff for years, insights would be great.
