I have the Boosey and Hawkes "pocket score" to "The Planets". There is a
part for oboeist doubling "bass oboe". Is that the designation Holst used
for the Heckelphone?
I have heard "The Planets" played - only once - at a live concert. The
instrument used sounded like what I would expect from a "bass oboe", but
from my position in the audience I couldn't see it at all clearly.
