I read about these instruments for some time here
before actually seeing one 'in the flesh' and was SO
glad that we didn't carry them at the Walmart where I
work full time. Then came the day that they suddenly
appeared at the front of the store at the vision
center. I immediately talked to the department head,
who said there was nothing he could do about getting
these instruments, though he himself thought they were
trash. In the dapartment I manage, there are also
certain items that I have NO CONTROL over---somewhere
further upstream than I'll ever get, a buyer is
allowed to decide that these abominations will be sold
at MY Walmart. I will certainly not encourage anyone
to buy one though!!

It was a drum set. A child was playing with it, and he
was transported
when he discovered that he could bash something in the
store without his
parents complaining. The child decided (I'm not
kidding) that it
sounded better when he hit it on the sides with a
ruler rather than
hitting it on the drumhead. This may have saved the
drumhead from
being pierced.

Someone posted here that Costco has decided to abandon
selling these
instruments. Let's hope this is an example of Costco
getting rid of
its unsold inventory, not an ongoing merchandising
campaign.
