Here in old Europe, the wax used with a hot steel rod for the
"professional" lining of a finger hole is frequently a 50% Beeswax/50%
Carnauba wax blend.

The two waxes can be warmed together in a can placed in a pan of boiling
water and gently stirred, taking usual Health and Safety precautions.
Bolder souls may just heat a can on a hotplate until both waxes melt,
stir and the job's done.

As Noel Taylor's repair tech did, all you have to do is heat the rod in
a bunsen flame, dip it in the wax mixture and apply to the hole. Wise
men might fabricate a handle for the rod to avoid hot fingers.
