Back in the mid 80s when I was studying with Harold Wright he refered to La
Valse as being one of the finest bass clarinet parts written.

At that time he was rehearsing it with the Boston Symphony orchestra...

In regards to the part(in La Valse) he said
"The tone of an A bass would be something ealse...if it is anything like my
A Soprano clarinet."...or something to that effect..
Mr. Wright was of course referring to his Ralph McLane Buffet which he
bought from RM>.

As to the whereabouts of this particular instrument I wonder if any one out
there knows? Many friends of mine who studied with Wright are also
wondering this as well.

David Dow
Symphony NB

If you can play it well forwards...then practice it backwards...
