Adam,

Go for it! You have a unique opportunity and a real responsibility to do
it and do it well.
Get everything you can on tape. Then offer it to Julliard, NY Pub
Library, Smithsonian, etc.
Videotape some sessions if you can. Get help from other clarinetists to
pose important as well as trivial questions. Go over his old programs,
photos, mementos, etc., with him.
You can do a real service to the wide-wide world of Music if you do it well.
Maybe there's an author/grad student out there who can do a complete
biography.
How I envy your position in this. Good luck with the project.
