Dear list:
I'm in the final stages of editing a new edition of Vincent Gambaro's 3
Quartets for Flute, Clarinet, Horn & Bassoon, Op. 4. As with a lot of music of the
time, the clarinet part is written for C clarinet. My question to the list
is what to do about this.
A few years back I spoke to Himie Voxman about this and he told me to go
ahead and transcribe all C parts to Bb for practical considerations. I'm leaning
towards doing this in my editions but I have seen on this list the occasional
mention of the C clarinet and its modern use. Would there be an interest in
making a C part available for those who want a more "authentic" playing
experience? (I know as a horn player, I'm a purest and keep all of the horn parts in
the original keys.)
Looking forward to the responses.
Best,
Marc Cerri
