I would think it would be a good idea to do as much playing as you can fit
in. It would be a good way to make contacts. Some band directors play in
community and professional groups. Also try to meet the private teachers
of other instruments. I will bet that when a student has a sibling that
wants to play an different instrument the parent may start out looking for
a new teacher by asking private teacher of the first child.
