I always say they have a very "clear" tone. :-) Material is much less
important overall than chamber design and facing as far as producing a tone
is concerned. It seems that it is harder to get consistency in crystal
mouthpieces, but a good one is as good as a good one in any other
material. Major advantages of crystal are that the material is so hard
that the facing is unlikely to change from wear over time, and it will not
warp. The price/quality relationship is generally applicable in
mouthpieces, but there are exceptions, of course.
