It's a completely different style of reed-setup. Same was for me and
Bill Jenkin (Baltimore Sym/former Vancouver Sym and a student of Wes
if I remembered correctly) when at the Scotia Festival we tried each
other's equipment. His was like playing on a brick to me and mine was
like playing on a #2 to him. Yet both of us sounded really good, and
had that "dark sound" that is sought after typically.

It's the school of Clarinet playing that is different. Bill would take
literally each and every Vandoren Reed and make it play. I would be
very selective and only accept 1-2 per box if that as having cane for
an acceptable sound.

My way was a lot more expensive back then....... ;)

Hi, folks

Well, Lelia continues to be amongst the most charming and witty of
participants on the list, and she has nailed the "each to his own"
philosophy perfectly.

I was recently privileged to hear Wes Foster and Howard Klug try out
each other's equipment in a nice studio at the back of Morrie Backun's
shop.
They both sounded wonderful of course, and very politely agreed to
disagree on their set-ups. Both are great artists and true gentleman.
"We're
all different," said Wes, and Howard concurred.

Hear, hear! And a tip of the hat to Lelia for "sneaking out", being
different and being true to herself.
