Hi Ken,
this music (one of my all time favourites, actually) depends very much on
the timbre of the clarinet. Just figure the long note in the beginning. I
would not perform this on a modern clarinet, let alone a boehm system type.
Yet if you have to, try to use a "Viennese style" mouthpiece with very long
facing, tiny tip opening and very heavy reed. Otherwise it will turn out a
travesty as indeed all the recordings I have heard do.
