I hesitate to suggest listening to recordings to learn a piece; but one
contrast may be instructive. If you can find them, look for a recording by
Beverly Sills and one by Elly Ameling. The Sills recording takes less than
1/2 the performance time of the Ameling recording! The Sills performance
is a bit more bravura; but the Ameling performance seems to me to be a bit
more satisfying for the listener and for all of the performers. Even so,
11+ minutes is a bit long.
