Subj: [kl] Murder on the Mozart Express
Date: Wed, 18 Aug 2004 16:56:31 -0400

On adding to the repeats in the Mozart Quintet, Dan writes: >>Now if you
want to waste that opportunity by adding the melody of "When the Saints
Go Marchin In," be my guest, but you won't live out the day.<<

Archie Camden recorded the Mozart Bassoon Concerto, singing and dancing
through it in a way that's irresistible even today. He added a BIG
(2-minute) cadenza in the finale, including the first 8 bars of The
Marriage of Figaro Overture. Not quite as odd as putting in a bit of
The Saints, and the Bassoon Concerto is no K. 622, but all part of the
=66un.

I'm thinking of writing Murder on the Mozart Express. The villain finds
the manuscript of K. 622 and claims it's really for contrabassoon (just
like the bass part in the Grand Partoottsie [which is the true
spelling]). He also inserts a cadenza that cross-cuts between The
Saints, Ibert's modernist one and Terry Riley's "In C" transposed into A
and repeated 7,362 times. On repeat 4,012, he's sliced to death with
stale pizzas, studded with specially sharpened reeds, which Dan has been
saving all these years.
