My C from Patricola came with two barrels (46 and 47 mm). The throat Bb
was so flat that it was unusable. I saw the Patricola brothers at Fest in
New Orleans and they took the clarinet back to Italy with them. They
returned it to me with a 45mm barrel and it plays fine now. The return
took place during 9/11 and they were wonderful at finding a way to get my
instrument back to me without delay. This is the only one of my
instruments to not have been Morrie-fied (at Morrie's recommendation). It
is a nice little C clarinet and now that I am using a wooden mouthpiece on
it, it has softened it's bite a little.
Someone on the list was having trouble justifying the purchase of a C
clarinet. Well, if you are going to play it (anywhere, for any reason),
then there is the justification. If it is going to sit in the case, then
it is a waste of money. There is no law against simple self-gratification
either. If your family won't starve or be without a roof or clothing, and
you can spare the expense, then buy the thing. Money has one purpose.
