Subj: [kl] Etheridge book on K. 622
Date: Thu, 12 Aug 2004 17:18:00 -0400

I bought the Etheridge book and was disappointed. It represented a lot
of work, but didn't seem useful by itself. Nevertheless, I set about
collecting the recordings by the players discussed in the book, to find
out whether following along with the descriptions could teach me
something. =20

However, I could not find any evidence of recordings by several players
(e.g., Stanley Hasty).

I met David Etheridge at the Columbus ClarinetFest and asked him where I
could find the missing recordings. He said they didn't exist, and that
the book was based on correspondence and interviews, rather than
listening.

I suppose that's the main thing wrong with it.

Best regards.

Ken Shaw
