I have nearly always used an approximation of this order, but for one of
those personal but unexplainable reasons (don't know, it just IS) it has
always been more comfortable to me to put the mouthpiece on the barrel, put
the reed and ligature on, and THEN place that assembly on the assembled body
of the clarinet. Only dropped a mouthpiece once, and it was a GG
crystal...borrowed to try before buying my own. After shelling out the bucks
for a replacement from my 1970's high school budget, I have since always
kept a grip on mouthpieces...and more careful with borrowed ones.
