That's what a local music store would like for you to believe.
Woodwind Brasswind sure doesn't do it that way! They put something
like $300 on your card and get a preauthorization for the full amount
(if you run with the 3 instruments they would charge you of course).
So you can try multiple instruments risk and cost free.
I've heard really great things about the Jupiter Parisienne Series
Wooden Clarinets. Jupiter seems to have taken the R-13 Buffet,
dissected it and created their own line - pretty much like Yamaha has
done often.

Possibly in America they all do. But in England Messrs Howarths are
far
more flexible. I had three (or was it four?) Bb clarinets at home with
NONE charged to my card. Just a very few pounds for insurance.
