Ted Casher here. I use Oleg ligatures. Pricey, but works for me. They
have all the advantages of the neoprene ligatures, without taking the high
away from the sound.
Inasmuch as my primary sax is tenor, and I am a player out of the Ben
Webster/Lucky Thompson/Coleman Hawkins sonority, my instrumental blowthrough
tends to be dark. Therefore, I have to find ancillary appliances which will
preserve the highs into my clarinet--and alto---while letting the reed
vibrate freely.
My other choice for clarinet is Luyben plastic ligs and caps. They are
inexpensive and last a long time.
For those who use glass mpces---the Oleg clarinet ligature will not fit.
You have to use an alto sax ligature. No problem, except the lig is of gold
color. I use a Luyben cap on the setup. A Gigliotti cap will fit also.
String seems to take too long to implement---this is a personal observation.
Too many problems with this medium.
