Subj: [kl] SilvaBet screw-on pads

Lelia Loban asked about screw-in resonator pads on a Bettony SilvaBet.

A couple of years ago, I got an H. Bettony silver Eb, which has the same
type of pads on the 4 bottom keys. It needed all new pads, so there was
no possibility of preserving the leather ones

I took it to a flute specialist, who either bought or made new
=66lute-style goldbeater-over-felt pads. She told me she seated them the
same way she did on flutes, inserting semi-circular strips of paper
between the pad and the cup.

The Leblanc contras have the same type of pads, and at least in the past
it's been almost impossible to get replacements from Leblanc. Clark
=46obes told me that before he stopped doing repairs, he would cut out the
nibs in the pad cups and float standard pads in on shellac in the usual
way.

Best regards.

Ken Shaw
