Kelly,

Did you say you are playing a Patricola C? My Patricola C had pretty much
the same problem. I let Patricola Brothers know of the difficulty and they
made me a different barrel, which solved the problem. I, too, was using a
Greg Smith mouthpiece at the time. My new Lomax mouthpiece works very well
on my C clarinet and has given me a whole new array of colors. It has also
softened the sharp edge of the sound. While I liked many things about
Greg's mouthpiece, it didn't offer the flexibility of the Lomax. C
clarinets can sound pretty harsh and this new mouthpiece lets the
liveliness of the C through without the biting edge. I realize that your
new mouthpiece solved your problem, but when you go to sell the clarinet,
whoever buys it will have the same problem you had originally. It is nice
to be able to move on to better products as they become available this way
without compromise or restriction.

Let me know when you are going to be in my area and maybe we can have lunch
or something. Looking forward to Atlanta.

Nancy
